Server infected with ransomware – What to do?
Over the last couple of years, Ransomware has repeatedly come up in lists with the top most threatening cyber risks. Ransomware, hostage software, cryptoware, malware. These are terms that regularly appear in the news. Companies are struggling with this persistent and aggressive form of malware. More often not only PCs are infected, but also parts of data centers of companies. Since the data centre is the heart of the organisation, the malware can shut down the entire business. What can you do to beat this number one cyber threat?
Server infected with ransomware
In the case of a ransomware attack, you can do different things. A few examples: 1. Wipe your entire server which also goes together with losing all of your data, 2. Pay the sum that the hackers ask for and hope that you can regain access to your data, or 3. you can try to get rid of your system’s ransomware as quickly as possible by trying to only delete the ransomware files. The last option sounds the most attractive, but it also takes a lot of time. Time with which losses are also associated, because during this process the data is still being held hostage and your business operations are standing still.

Rent a temporary server
Did you know that temporarily renting data centre systems can help solve the ransomware problem? This is done as follows:
- The infected server is quarantined and the data on your backup is transferred to the temporary server.
- In the meantime, an attempt may be made to remove the ransomware from the infected server that has been quarantined. In this way, the entire business can simply continue to run.
- After all data from the temporary server has been transferred back to your swiped and safe systems, you can hand in the temporary rental server again.
